About Your Library

Using the On-line Catalog to View Your Personal Library Account:

Under "Borrower Details" you can view your current loans, reservations and history.

Enter your Bar Code (from your library card) and
enter your PIN number (it is 99999).

Books may be renewed from home.  If a book is eligible for renewal, there will be a "Renew" block to the right of the title.  Click on that to renew that book.  If all books are available for renewal the "Renew All" prompt will appear above the list and you may click on that.

Books may be reserved from home.  Only books that are on loan may be reserved.  Click the "Reserve Item" prompt on the right-hand side of the book title.  You will then be prompted to enter your Bar Code and your PIN number, then click "Reserve Item".  Once reserved items are at the library, you will be notified.  Items will be held for 1 week for pick up.

• The Berne Public Library is supported by the taxpayers of the City of Berne, Indiana, and by the sale of library cards to other individuals who wish to use the library's services.  The cost of a one-year card is $70.00.  Residents of  French Township, and Monroe Township can buy a Berne Public Library Card for $20.00 since the township will pay $50.00 of the cost.  Residents of Blue Creek Township can purchase a Berne Public Library Card for $10.00 as that township will pay $60.00 of the cost.  Check with the library for information on obtaining your card.

• Cards must be presented each time materials are checked out.  Whenever library materials are checked out on your library card, it becomes your responsibility to return them within the appointed time and in good condition.

• A Book Return Drop Box is provided near the front entrance of the library for after-hour returns.  It is locked during the day.  Items taken from the box at the beginning of each day are considered as returned the previous day.  Fines for overdue items will be recorded and may be paid the next time you are in the library.

OTHER CIRCULATION SERVICES

Reserving Books:  Most items can be reserved in person at the library or by phone.  Once reserved items are at the library, the borrower will be notified. Items will be held for 1 week for pick up.

Renewals:  Renewing items can be done in person, by phone, or on-line.  See instructions above for on-line renewals.

Extension of Loan Time: Those who will be on vacation at the time an item will be due can ask for an extension of the loan time. This does not apply to videos.

Large Print:  Large print materials are available.  The collection changes approximately every two months.

Interlibrary Loan:  ILL allows a library borrower to obtain books not owned by our library.  If the book comes from out of state, the postage will be paid by the patron.

Special Collections:  Special Collections for nursing homes, classrooms, daycare centers, etc. are available upon request with 24 hrs. notice.

Teachers:  Teachers in the Berne area can obtain a special library card for materials used in the classroom.
